2. Using the service without an account
You do not need to register or provide your name, e-mail address or any other personal details to use Unzip Online. The service can be used completely anonymously.
3. Files you upload
Unzip Online is a web-based service, so the archive you submit is transferred to our servers and extracted there. The following applies to every file you upload:
- Purpose: extracting the archive and making its contents available for you to browse and download. Nothing else.
- Passwords: if an archive is encrypted, the password you enter is used only to decrypt that archive during the current extraction. It is not stored.
- Access: extracted files are reachable only through private, unlisted links tied to your session. Our staff does not open or review your files.
- Retention: uploaded and extracted files are deleted automatically two hours after processing. You can delete them immediately at any time using the "Delete all" button.
- No secondary use: we do not sell your files, share them with third parties, or use them to train AI or machine-learning models.
- Legal basis: performance of the service you requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. Where your files are processed
Depending on your location, your request is routed to the nearest of our data centers in the European Union, the United States or Singapore, operated by professional hosting providers (Hetzner in the EU, InterServer in the US, Contabo in Singapore). Where files are processed outside the European Economic Area, this is necessary to perform the service you requested (Art. 49(1)(b) GDPR); files are in any case deleted within two hours.
5. Server logs
Like practically every website, our servers automatically record technical data for each request: your IP address, date and time, the page or file requested, the HTTP status, the amount of data transferred, the referring page and your browser/operating system. We use these logs to keep the service running, to detect abuse and attacks, and to diagnose errors. Logs are deleted after a short period. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure and stable service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
6. Cookies
Unzip Online itself does not use cookies for tracking. The only cookies set by us are technical ones required to operate the service, for example for load balancing and to link an extracted archive to your browser session. These are not used to identify or track you.
Third-party cookies set by our advertising partner are described in section 8. You can change your choices at any time via the cookie settings icon at the bottom of the page.
7. Website analytics
To understand how the site is used, we use Plausible Analytics, a lightweight, open-source analytics tool that works without cookies and without collecting personal data. It does not track you across websites and is fully GDPR-compliant. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
8. Advertising
Unzip Online is free because it is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense / Google Ads to display advertisements. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show personalised ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and in doing so processes your IP address and device information.
- Personalised advertising is only enabled with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw or change your consent at any time via the cookie settings icon at the bottom of the page.
- You can also opt out of ad personalisation in your Google Ads settings.
- Details on how Google uses data from partner sites: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
9. Contact by e-mail
If you write to us, we process your e-mail address and the contents of your message in order to reply. We delete this correspondence once your request is resolved, unless we are legally required to keep it. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, which is why we also recommend not uploading archives containing highly sensitive data unless necessary, and deleting your files right after downloading them.
